The Biking Queens, three women from Surat, Gujarat are setting out on an intercontinental journey on their bikes. Dr Sarika Mehta, Jinal Shah and Rutali Patel will begin their expedition on June 5 from Varanasi and will ride 25,000km, through 25 countries, across three continents, spanning 90 days. Their journey will end in London on August 26, reports The Week.

The women want to spread the message of Nari Gaurav or women pride across the world. On their journey they will visit Indian families, biking communities, Indian embassies and high commissions. On their 90 day trip they will visit a host of countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Morocco and the United Kingdom.

How the biking queens prepared for the expedition

Founded by Dr. Sarita Mehta, the group will travel on the KTM 390 Duke for the duration of their expedition. This isn’t Dr. Sarita’s first tryst with intercontinental travel, she has earlier visited Europe, Africa, and Russia with the help of World Health Organization (WHO) on her bike.

Anything that you may throw its way, it handles beautifully.”

How exactly did the women plan this trip out? Mehta said, “Designing the route was the most difficult part because we did not rely much on Google as we did on reading up and consulting riders and riding clubs in other countries. We bifurcated countries through cities and communities, which we will be visiting and/or passing through.”

Mehta is extremely enthusiastic about this journey and hopes it stands as a testament to womanhood. She said, “I am thrilled for this expedition. Every new journey is a testimonial of our strong will power and womanhood. I am proud to lead the Biking Queens and all the voyages undertaken till date.”

The women have ensured that safety remains their first priority. They have equipped themselves with riding jackets, riding pants that offer knee and leg protection and have also invested in riding gloves and a full face helmet to keep them protected.
