Disneyland is often called the happiest place on Earth, and it’s set to get a whole lot happier (for adults at least). You will soon get the chance to buy alcohol at the famously dry theme park with the new Star Wars cantina that is set to open in 2019.

The long-awaited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge parks are set to open at California’s Disneyland Resort in summer 2019 and at Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort in late fall. Here guests can visit the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, which has been called “an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers travelling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space.”

Now the Disney Parks blog has announced that both parks will include a watering hole, called Oga’s Cantina, which supposedly serves “pilots, bounty hunters, smugglers, locals and galactic travellers alike”.

Disneyland to get a proper Star Wars cantina

The addition of this new Star Wars cantina will herald a major change for Disneyland. Usually, visitors can’t purchase alcohol at Disneyland unless they head to the Disney California Adventure, the hotels, or the private and exclusive Club 33. However, things have also been slowly changing in Florida. Wine and beer can be found at sit-down restaurants, and at the Epcot area.

The Oga’s Cantina will have both “choices for kids and libations for adults.” According to the Disney Parks blog, “visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell”.

You can look forward to visiting the Star Wars cantina when it opens in 2019 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. In the meantime, you can brush up on some tips for your next vacation to a Disney Park.
