Mirazur, a restaurant in the French Riviera has been voted the world’s best restaurant. The restaurant secured the No. 1 spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. This was announced on Tuesday at a ceremony in Singapore. Mirazur is owned by Chef Mauro Colagreco, an Argentinian native.
The establishment climbed from No.3 on the list year to No.1 this year. Colagreco has also earned three Michelin stars. How did Mirazur beat out top contenders to emerge as number? According to the ‘World’s 50 Best Restaurants’, “Unrivaled views of the French Riviera, three levels of cascading vegetable gardens churning out the sweetest produce and a team of outrageously talented cooks and front-of-house staff combine to make Mirazur the ultimate restaurant experience.”

What does the World’s Best Restaurant have to offer?
The Mediterranean restaurant is located in Menton, France near the Italian border. It serves ‘ultra-fresh’ food that is made with products sourced locally. The menu reads, “The cuisine evolves freely according to the available products and the Chef’s inspiration.”
The set menu at Mirazur has dishes that range from 160€ to 260€ (about $180 to $300). One of the sets, The Mirazur Universe is served both at lunch and dinner and claims to be, “the experience of a sensory trip, without borders, to meet the vegetable, terrestrial and marine essences of our universe.”
Colagreco’s journey as a chef
Colagreco began cooking in France in his 20s and went on to work with renowned chefs like Bernard Loiseau, Alain Passard, and Alain Ducasse. His other ventures include Grand Coeur in Paris, Carne restaurants around Argentina, Grill 58 in Macau, and several more.

The World’s 50 best restaurants list changed its rules in 2019. It was ensured that any restaurant that had previously claimed the No. 1 spot was entirely excluded from the list. This meant that past winners (like New York’s Eleven Madison Park) couldn’t keep holding the top spot. On this year’s list, Copenhagen’s Noma, came in at No. 2.
Mirazur is open from Wednesday through Sunday and you can make reservations online. However, owing to its fame, the restaurant is mostly booked. No tables are available for two until next year.
