Iceland’s WOW air carrier plans to launch the first budget flights to India. The service with be launched this December from London Gatwick, as well as many North American cities, to New Delhi.

Fares start from just £149 ($200) but will have ‘short’ stopovers at Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport before continuing east to India. It will fly three times a week from Reykjavik to Delhi starting 6 December but plans to increase this number to five in January 2019.

The Iceland-based WOW airline will fly three times a week from Reykjavik to Delhi

Flights from London to Reykjavik operate twice a day, which may result in long layovers in Keflavik Airport. This is in addition to the three-hour journey to Reykjavik, and the ten-hour flight to Delhi, which already make the WOW service four and a half hours longer than a direct flight to the Indian capital.

New Budget Flights To India Via Iceland

Described as “the first step in the carrier’s next phase of cross-continental expansion,” the new flight will also serve 38 other destinations across Europe. It also offers budget flights to India from American cities like New York, Washington, and Chicago for the same price, again via Keflavik Airport. WOW currently offers budget flights from London to these major American destinations starting at £125.99 ($170).

All flights will stop at Reykjavik’s Keflavik International Airport

Even with fares to Delhi starting at £149, the cheapest seats are sure to sell out quickly, leaving the more expensive ones for £220.99 ($300) up to £499 ($675) one-way.

Like most other low-cost airlines, it should be noted that economy seats include only one carry-o bag and a personal item. Those wishing to check in a bag, or even get an in-flight meal will have to pay extra.

The WOW service to Delhi will be onboard the airline’s new A330neo aircraft. More information can be found here.
