Every year, thousands of Harry Potter fans visit The Making of Harry Potter at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London, and this May they unveiled a new experience that will allow them to try on iconic costumes form the popular film series.
Housed at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden just outside London, the experience takes you head first into the heart of the Harry Potter films. Its vast collection of props, models, and sets show the amazing effort that went on behind the scenes to bring J.K. Rowling’s books to life.
The new Behind the Seams exhibition features everything from initial sketched of costumes to finished outfits. It was put together by costumier Laurent Guinci. He jokes that bringing the costumes back to life was an unusual experience for the crew; “We had to create bespoke mannequins to put them on, to the exact body measurements of the actors”.

The experience also includes a look at how the costumes were made to look old, worn, or battle-torn. This was the work of an on-set ‘distressing department’. Costumes include those of Cedric Diggory, Herbology Professor Sprout, Rubeus Hagrid, and even the flowing robes of Lord Voldemort.
Behind the Seams will allow visitors to “attend a one-hour session with one of our tour experts, where they will see up close (some never-before-seen) costumes, and learn some of the secrets behind how they were designed and created for the film series. They will also be able to try on clothing used in the films for a very unique photo opportunity!” according to a representative of Warner Brothers Studio Tour London.
The exhibition will run daily from 26 May to 3 June, and then on weekends until 22 July. Tickets, including entrance to the Studio Tour, are priced at £65 (€74) for adults and £55 (€62) for children.
