Childhood nostalgia is about to get a boost, with the world’s first Monopoly hotel opening in Malaysia‘s capital, Kuala Lumpur. Set to open in 2019, this is the brainchild of M101 Holdings and American multinational toy company Hasbro, which owns the board game.
First launched in 1935, the popular board game Monopoly has players move around the board, buying and developing properties. It has been played by over a billion people in 114 countries over its 83-year-long history, according to Hasbro’s Managing Director for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Jenny Chew Yean Nee.
The new hotel is part of a plan by M101 and the Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry to attract more tourists using property tourism. The thematic hotel, with its memorable experience, ambience, and architecture, is also looking to encourage more Millennials as visitors, according to Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz. To date, M101 had launched three major projects — the M101 Dang Wangi, which houses the RED by Sirocco Hotel, M101 Skywheel and M101 Bukit Bintang.
The five-star ‘Monopoly Mansion’ will not only feature distinctive characteristics from the game, it will also have an Art Deco 1920’s look that will give it a Gatsby-like feel. It will be in the M101 Bukit Bintang building, currently managed by the Sirocco Group. the 255-room hotel is set to offer various amenities, including its strategic location, and panoramic views of the city.
