Ladakh

And for those who haven’t yet visited Ladakh, I think it’s high time to go and experience culture and beauty at it’s best. You can visit Zanskar Valley, Spituk Gompa, Pangong lake and whatnot. How to reach: You can either take a flight to Leh directly or take a train from Jammu Tawi Railway Station. There is a cab service from Jammu that you can take or JKSRTC bus to Ladakh is also an option.

Srinagar

The “Heaven on Earth” as Jahangir called it, is an epitome of beauty. This picturesque summer capital on Jammu and Kashmir is situated on the banks of Jhelum river (called Vitastā in Sanskrit) 😉 . Srinagar is cool throughout the year and offers the scenic beauty that can make you skip a beat. You can enjoy Shikara rides in Dal Lake and shop from floating markets. You can also visit Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, you can enjoy bird watching at Hokersar.

How to reach: A direct flight from Jammu can be taken which will make you reach within 45 minutes.

Dharamsala

This holy residence of Dalai Lama houses the Tibetan monk in exile. Located in Kangra district, the city is divided into upper and lower divisions. The lower division is Mcleodganj. Since ODIs and IPLs are introduced at the HPCA, the city has become an attraction for sports enthusiasts. You can visit places like Kangra fort, Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagsu falls and Namgyal Monastery.

How to reach: You can take a flight and reach Gaggal Airport. Taxis are available there that can take you to your destinations. There are usually buses running in Himachal.

Best time to visit: October to June

Nainital

Situated at an elevation of 1,938 m above the sea level, Nainital is again one of the best places in India to see. There are many things to see in Nainital including boating in Naini Lake and the Naina Devi Temple. Do not miss to visit Raj Bhavan and Nainital Zoo. This picturesque city has lots to offer you.

How to reach: Flights will land at Pantnagar airport and you can take a bus from there or a cab. Trains will drop you at Kathgodam Railway station and from there you can take a bus or cab for the rest of your journey.

Spiti Valley

This picturesque valley is filled with greenery and perfect villages to offer you. Beware, you might get stumped by beauty Spiti offers you. It is bordered by the Himalayas and sits up at an altitude of 12500 feet above the sea level. It is beautiful and pleasant throughout the year. Winters are harsh making it one of the coldest places in the country.

How to Reach: The nearest airport to Spiti is the Kullu airport, you can take a bus from there to Spiti. Shimla railway station is the closest to Spiti, you can grab a train til there and further take a bus. Spiti is connected to the roads properly and taking a road will make you experience the real beauty Spiti has to offer you.

Best time to visit: Mid May to Mid Oct

Patnitop

Another part of the beautiful state, Jammu and Kashmir is Patnitop. You can experience the snow if you go in the month of December and January. The snow-capped mountains take away your breath. Do not ever plan to miss it. Patnitop usually is pleasant throughout the year but December makes it magical!

The temperature throughout the year: 9°C

How to reach: You can reach Jammu Tawi Railway Station and take a cab from there. There are buses running that will help you reach there. Because of the new highway constructed, it just takes 4-5 hours from Jammu to reach Patnitop.

Khajjiar

The mini-Switzerland of India is a small town near Dalhousie and is a beautiful place to visit. It is situated in Himachal Pradesh and has some beautiful mountain views and 19th-century British churches to not miss.

How to reach: You can take a train till Pathankot and then a cab to Khajjiar. You can also take a bus till Dalhousie. It is comfortable and affordable.

Auli

One of the best places to visit in North India is Auli. The snow-covered mountains will take away your breath. You will love the local sightseeing and the delicious local cuisines. Chattrakund lake is a must-visit in Auli. You can also visit the artificial lake and trek to Gurso Bugyal. You can do skiing if you go in the perfect weather.

How to reach: The nearest airport is Jolly Airport in Dehradun which is 279 km from Auli, a cab can be taken from the airport. You can also take a train to Haridwar railway station and take a bus or cab from there.

Kasol

This hippie summer destination has food to die for, especially the desserts from the German bakery. The views that this summer destination offers is just magnificent. You can visit the Gurudwara Shri Manikaran Sahib and camp riverside. You can also do a Chalal trek.

How to reach: Bhuntar airport is 31 km from Kasol and Pathankot is the nearest railway station and can take a cab from there.
