Traveling with your children is one of the best experiences you can have as a parent. New stories to tell strengthen the family relationship, and the kids have endless fun. For your family trip to be a success, you need to have an itinerary that is suitable for the little ones because you won’t always find recreational spaces for them. In the Riviera Maya, you can find many unique places to adventure in the Mexican Caribbean. However, not all of these places are kid-friendly. But don’t worry, we have compiled the best places for kids to learn, explore and have fun in the Riviera Maya.

Tulum Archaeological Zone

Not far from the Riviera Maya is this emblematic site where children can explore the outdoors. If your children love archaeology, this site is ideal for them. It is an archaeological zone that is promoted as a place suitable for younger visitors. These ruins tell stories and invite you to learn more about the Maya past and history. In addition, it has beautiful views of the sea.

The Castle is the most outstanding construction that you will find when touring the place. It was built in front of the Caribbean Sea, being a lighthouse used by the Mayans to navigate through the reefs. Another attractive building is the Templo de Los Frescos (Temple of the Frescoes), characterized by the tonality of its decoration. In addition, its walls tell stories and are printed with pre-Hispanic legends.

The tour is about an hour and a half. You have the option of hiring a transfer service to Tulum with a tour guide for an additional cost, although you can also find information panels in Spanish and English, so a tour guide is not necessary.  It is important to arrive early, bring sunscreen and water to stay hydrated.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve

Near the Tulum Archaeological Zone is the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Among the activities you can do is take a boat ride on the lagoon while appreciating the mangroves, fauna, and vegetation. Most of the tours include visits such as a temple submerged in the water and the “Bird Island.”

With a bit of luck, your children will be able to see manatees near their sanctuary. There are also iguanas, woodpeckers, flamingos, owls, hummingbirds, among others. It is a special place because it allows you to disconnect from the world. It has cabins and camping sites. Water activities are one of its main attractions. You can practice scuba diving or kayaking.

Croco Cun Zoo

It is an amusement park with the mission that visitors can live with many animal species. You will find crocodiles and deer, wild cats, turtles, snakes, monkeys, and other regional species. You can purchase a tour that includes an excursion through the abundant jungle and appreciate the different animals along the way. In addition to learning, at some points, you can even interact with them.

Your children will enjoy feeding the deer, watching the release of turtles, learning about different species of reptiles, and even the bravest ones will be able to touch the boas and pose with the snakes. In addition to the fauna, they will tell you about the vegetation of the place and its function in ecosystems. All parents who visit recommend including Croco Cun Zoo in their itinerary.

Cirque Du Soleil Joya

It is an unforgettable night show. From the entrance to the enclosure, you begin to enter the experience through its fascinating architecture until you reach the magnificent theatre. Undoubtedly, it is an event recommended for the whole family. Its incredible staff of singers, dancers and musicians will leave you impressed. Thanks to this famous entertainment company, the Riviera Maya has positioned itself as one of the main tourist destinations.

The show combines Mexican elements, where the creators have researched and compiled details of Mexican culture, emphasizing the monarch butterfly’s migration. When purchasing your tickets, you have the option of just attending the event or buying a combo that includes dinner. Travel fast on a shuttle and enjoy the whole show.

Museum of Wonders 3D

In Playa del Carmen, you can also find first-class entertainment spaces.

This is an unconventional museum where you can take part in fun photographs. Opening a treasure vault, fighting a dragon, travelling aboard a bubble are some of the images you will be part of. The museum includes a total of 60 works created by the artist Kurt Wenner, whose life you will learn more about in a projection room. You will also learn how 3D illusions work.

Afterwards, you can start a tour of at least one hour, where the guide will recommend the best ways to take amazing pictures. Children will feel like they are in a fantasy world, where they are guaranteed to have fun. Come and be part of this surreal experience.  The first 3D museum in Mexico is open every day and offers special discounts on its website.  For a comfortable and safe trip, you can use a private transportation service to Playa del Carmen, which you can usually book from your hotel online.
