Mysore Palace

Afternoon visit of Mysore Palace, residence of the maharajas. The history of Mysore Palace can be traced back to the 14th century when the Wadiyars, the ruling dynasty of Mysore, established their kingdom. The original palace was a simple structure made of wood and mud, which was later demolished and rebuilt multiple times due to fires and other incidents. The present-day Mysore Palace was constructed between 1897 and 1912 under the patronage of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, who wanted to create a palace that would reflect the grandeur of the kingdom. Along the way stop in Sravanabelagola, located in the Hassan district of Karnataka, India, is a significant pilgrimage site for Jains and holds immense historical and religious importancerenowned for its co-lossal monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali (also known as Gommateshwara), which is considered one of the tallest free-standing statues in the world. The statue is carved out of a single block of granite and measures about 57 feet in height. It is an awe-inspiring representation of Lord Ba-hubali, who is revered as a symbol of renunciation, self-control, and enlightenment. The statue is considered a masterpiece of Jain art and is an important pilgrimage site for Jains from around the world.

The temple took over a hundred years to complete and showcases a stunning blend of Dravidian, Nagara, and Hoysala architectural styles. The exterior of the temple is adorned with intricate carvings depicting gods, goddesses, celestial beings, animals, and scenes from Hindu mythology. The temple's outer walls are particularly famous for their detailed sculptures, including the famous Madanikas (celestial nymphs) known for their grace and beauty.
