Transfer to Paykent - Sixty kilometers from Bukhara are the ruins of the Paykend settlement, occupying an area of about twenty hectares. Some sources say that Paykend, unlike other cities of Central Asia, did not have a ruler. It was a kind of "merchant republic" where the silk trade flourished. But after the conquest of Central Asia by the Arabs, Paykent became in the 8th century one of the largest centers of the Bukhara oasis for the fight against nomads. Paykent is often referred to as the "Pompeii of Asia". The city was swallowed up by the desert, which explains the fact that it, gradually covered with sand, is well preserved.
