Originally built to protect the Amer Fort, the Jaigarh Fort is a defense monument, rather than a luxurious palace. History Of The Jaigarh Fort Jaipur

The fort was built in 1726 under the rule of Mirza Jai Singh II. Named after Jai Singh II, the stunning fortress was built to safeguard the Amer Palace from rival kings and other warlords. Architectural Details

Jaigarh Fort was conceptualized, fabricated, and intricately implemented with accuracy by the architectural wizard of the time, Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya. The stunning architecture is a beacon of the ancient era of the Rajput Kings and Queens, attracting tourists and keen historians worldwide. The fortified stronghold spreads over 3 kilometers and is a kilometer wide.

The most predominant material used to build the fort is red sandstone, which displays the Indo-Persian style of architecture. There are two main entrances of the fort, with Dungar Darwaza to its south and Awani Darwaza to the east.

Jaivana Cannon

Witness the world’s largest cannon on wheels, the Jaivana cannon, which was manufactured in the forts foundry in 1720. The hefty 50-tonne barrel of the cannon is 20.19 feet long and has a diameter of 11 inches, which is bound to turn heads. The most striking feature of the cannon is that it can rotate 360 degrees. A tin shed was constructed over the cannon, to protect the barrel from weather anomalies.

The Jaigarh Fort, was the mecca of artillery production of the Mughal era. The exhibition showcases a wide variety of artilleries of the 18th Century, like shields, guns, swords, a 50-kg cannonball, grenades, and rockets, which allows you to uncover the ancient mode of warfare.

The opulent monument houses a museum curled up at the left of Awami Darwaza, which allows you to get insights into the lives of the Royal families and warriors.
