When I Had Food For Thought At Langkawi’s Night Market

In Southeast Asia, you can find food markets all over and it wouldn’t be right to say, “Why eat anywhere else?”. Food markets are one such place where you’ll get a great value of money with the best quality food dishes, especially in Langkawi. Food in these open markets is cooked fresh with local spices which are very aromatic in their flavours. You can treat yourself to an array of dishes from around Malaysia at Langkawi’s Night Market, and of course with a healthy dose of Malaysian cuisine too.

I visited this food market in Kuah called – Pekan Kuah Night Market and I’d personally recommend trying all kinds of mouth-watering dishes here. It won’t disappoint you and you may even want to return. From satay to traditional pancakes soaked in Nutella, ice cream mango milkshakes, fried samosas and more, it was all delicious for me. I highly suggest you check out Langkawi’s Night Market for the atmosphere if nothing else! Meals are typically around RM 2 to RM 8. Satay Chicken and Fish

Satay is one of the most popular snacks in Malaysia. Pieces of skewered meat are prepared by marinating overnight before being barbecued over a charcoal fire. It is very easily available at night markets and local restaurants, they are priced at RM 1 per stick. The marinade usually includes lemongrass, turmeric, coriander, garlic, chilli, and honey for a sweet taste. Satays can be made with lots of different kinds of meat – chicken, beef, fish, or lamb – which are usually served with peanut-based sauce.

Nasi Ayam

Nasi Ayam, or Malaysian-style chicken rice, is my favourite. Now, when you’re travelling abroad from India, chicken rice is on almost everyone’s list as it’s so comforting. This version of chicken is a bit crispy. The spices used to cook the chicken is similar to the spices used in India; however, it isn’t spicy. The chicken is then roasted and served hot with rice. The meal also includes some greens such as cucumber slices and salad, and comes with a spicy-dip (optional). Very delicious to taste, Nasi Ayam is cheap too. This dish is available across Malaysia. So, if you miss your chance in Langkawi, try the other spots.

Mini Coconut Pancakes

This is a one-of-a-kind dessert which is quite popular in Malaysia. A delicious treat, coconut pancakes are one of Malaysia’s traditional desserts. They are small in size and really sweet. You may not like the taste at first, but it gets better later. Served with Nutella, I strongly recommend to try them when you’re in Langkawi. They are simply to die for!
