Your cooking class will take place in a local home kitchen where Machiko will teach you how to make 2-3 traditional Japanese dishes that she enjoys cooking for family and friends. After cooking, enjoy your meal together in your host's Japanese home. On days they are available, Machiko's husband and kids may join you for your in-home culinary experience.

Please meet Machiko directly at her home. You can take the Hiroden (street car) no. 1,3,5 for Ujina Port, and get off at Minami machi 6 chome Station or Hirodaifuzoku gakko mae Station. Machiko's home is a 5-min walk from the station. The station is close to Yume town (shopping mall).

What To Expect
This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Machiko lives in a beautiful house with her children and husband, Daishi, who will join you for your experience whenever they are available. Machiko lives in a leafy residential neighborhood, located about a 20-minute streetcar ride from the city center. Her home is artistically decorated with an old turntable and several albums, an aquarium, family photos and the children's toys! Learn to cook 2-3 Japanese homestyle dishes from scratch during your 1.5-hour Japanese cooking class in Hiroshima. Machiko likes to use traditional cooking techniques, for example, when you learn to make the salad dressing, you will use a mortar and pestle to crush the sesame. After cooking, sit down together at her dining table and share the Japanese meal you helped prepare. Your menu might include dishes such as miso soup, salad with raw fish or shiraae (tofu and vegetable salad), tamagoyaki (Japanese omelette), karaage (meat or seafood deep-fried), rice balls and green tea flavored ice cream. This is a family-friendly experience!
