The island only has one village, which is also called Lopud and is located in Lopud bay. Our boat will bring you to the village from where you can walk to a unique bay Šunj at the opposite side of the island. Šunj is the most famous sandy beach of the Dubrovnik region. It is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest and it can be reached by foot, small electric vehicles or by the sea. The largest and most inhabited island of the Elaphite islands is Šipan with two key places on the island, the village Suđurađ and Šipan harbour. Šipan is a long-stretched island cover with lush mediterranean vegetation: olive trees, grapes, oranges, tangerines, figs, pomegranates and carob. Artifacts discovered on this island show that it was first inhabited in the time of the Roman Empire. And during the Dubrovnik Republic era aristocracy and the wealthy built their summer houses as cozy refuge during the summer heat. On the island there are many small votive churches and chapels, because for centuries the island was inhabited by many sailors. In Suđurađ, near the port, lies the renaissance castle of the family Stjepović - Skočibuha, whose construction was started in 1529. The island of Šipan is a beautiful oasis of peace and tranquillity.
