The development of the two lakes was commissioned by two different queens in the 15th century. Ranisar lake was made on the orders of Queen Jasmade Hadi, wife of Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. Padamsar lake was created by Queen Padmini, the daughter of Rana Sanga of Mewar.

History of Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi Maharaja Abhai Singh Rathore's wife, the Queen of Marwar (Jodhpur) headed this project and thus Toorji Ka Jhalra was built in the 1740s and was used by the locals for centuries till the city underwent modernization. Carved with Jodhpur's characteristic rose-red sandstone, in Rajput architecture, the walls of the stepwell are engraved with carvings of dancing elephants, mediaeval lions & cows; and niches that hold sculptures of deities revered in those times.

Interesting History Of Gulab Sagar Lake Jodhpur Gulab Sagar Talab In Jodhpur is a water storage facility built in 1788 by Gulab Rai, Maharaja Vijay Singh's mistress. Previously, the area was inhabited by another water source known as 'Bawri,' which was turned into Gulab Sagar Jodhpur.
