Why Mahebourg? Mahebourg is one of the oldest villages on the island, going back to the early Dutch and French periods. In fact, the coastal village was named after an important historical figure in Mauritius. Its lagoon is also the site of the historic naval battle between the British and the French. Mahébourg has preserved much of its authenticity and beauty with its old traditional houses still standing, its welcoming streets filled with sympathetic faces and its local restaurants serving food typical and unique to this region.
