The Pula waterfront stretches along the southeast coast of the Pula Bay, surrounding the old center of Pula from the northwest. Like any coastal city, in Pula the waterfront is a place for walking and meeting, a place to rest on a bench after a tiring day, even if it is only a small part of it, only 200 meters long. It is precisely here that retirees can be found who gather for the morning čakula, as well as amateur fishermen before going on a walk or on their way back to tell their acquaintances one of the fishing stories. They gather under the branches and thus spend several hours comfortably.

The bay of Pula forms a large natural harbour between the Musil peninsula with Cape Kumpare, Cape Stoja and the mainland. Pula belonged to Austria-Hungary until 1918 and became the main war harbour of the Austrian navy. The breakwater was built between 1910 and 1914 with the aim of narrowing the natural entrance to the natural harbour to only around 400 metres, making it easier to defend against enemy ships. The coast and the town could thus also be protected from larger waves. At the time of its construction, the Pula breakwater was one of the largest construction projects in the Mediterranean.

Štinjan was mentioned for the first time in the Roman era when, as Astinianum, it was an agricultural property of the Pula Romans. Later, the village was also called Astinian and Stiniano, and in times under Italy, Stignano. The earliest inhabited places were, even before the Romans, on today's hills Kašćuni, Kaštelir and Špeh (Castiun, Castelier and Grosso). The remains of these settlements were preserved until the time of Austria-Hungary, when military fortifications and positions were built on these hills.
