Walk with your guide to Chester Racecourse, established in 1539 and England’s oldest still on its original site. Learn about its beginnings as a Roman port and its development as a premier sporting venue.

After a drink at our meeting point, walk down to the River Dee through the Bridgegate. Learn about Chester’s development on and along its river banks. Your guide will tell you stories of the historical events, the people, buildings, and bridges along the Dee. Your guide can also advise you on boat trips and the river’s other attractions.

Chester Castle
Walk with your guide to Chester Castle, dating originally from 1071. Hear tales of some of the fascinating characters associated with it over the years and the gruesome events that have taken place within its confines.

Chester City Walls
Stroll along the Chester City Walls with your guide. Learn about the fortifications, towers, gates, and buildings that you’ll see along its length. Prisons, hospitals, markets, and even execution sites. Stop off in a pub or two along the way, where your guide will share details of his favorite bars, restaurants, and cafes in the city. As well as some of the other attractions Chester has to offer, which could enhance your visit.

Leaving the walls, your guide will take you to see what has been Chester’s Cathedral since 1541. Marvel at its magnificent architecture and learn of its history and development over the centuries. n.b. Tour does not take you into the Cathedral.

Take a gentle stroll with your guide to Chester High Cross. You’ll learn the theories of how Chester’s unique two-tier city center streets, called The Rows, with shops, bars, and cafes came to be. Head back down towards the river, past some distinctive and striking historic buildings. Some of them are pubs! Join your guide for another drink and ask him any final questions you may have about how to maximize your time in this marvelous city.
