Our first stop will be the Citadel, located on top of Jebel Al Qala’a. The hill is located 850 meters above sea level and overlooks the old city. It is considered one of Jordan’s most treasured destinations. The area of the citadel dates back as far as the Bronze Age. It was during this period that it was fortified (around 1800 BCE). Since then, the site has undergone many rebuilds and additional constructions during the Iron Age, Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad eras. Here we will explore the Temple of Hercules, Umayyad Palace, and Byzantine church, as well as enjoy the breath-taking views over the city.

We then continue to the Roman Theater, an incredible historical landmark. It has a fascinating story. It was built in 138AD to honor Emperor Hadrian and was designed for musical and theatrical performances, and thanks to its excellent acoustics, it’s still used for shows today. Imagine sitting among 6,000 spectators, just like in ancient times, enjoying a performance with perfect sound clarity.

We then continue to Jerash, so well preserved that you can almost hear the banter of the merchants and the creaking of chariot wheels along the cobblestoned streets. It was and extraordinary place in the days of Alexander the Great (332BC) and was very prosperous – 20,000 inhabitants once lived there. Explore the numerous and breathtaking ruins of colonnaded streets, arches, temples and baths in a remarkable state of preservation and completeness. After, return to Amman for overnight.

After a short drive, arrive to Mount Nebo to retrace the steps of Moses and admire the spectacular view of the Promised Land just as he did over 2,000 years before. Breakfast at the hotel followed by a wonderful day at one of the New Wonders of the World. The former capital of the Nabataean’s offers a magical experience. The ruins of this 2,000-year-old city carved out of rock, its huge tombs and its enchanting natural environment make it a unique complex. Walk through the Siq, a narrow gorge one kilometer long filled with interesting niches, shrines, and carvings. Running alongside the length of al Siq are water channels carved by the Nabateans to provide water to their communities. From here, the ancient city awaits. Sites you will discover along the way include the majestic Treasury, the awe-inspiring Street of Facades, the grand Theatre, the intriguing Nymphaeum and Qaser El-Bent.
