Experience the traditional Japanese technique 000 at Seibu Shibuya Department Store, located in the heart of Shibuya.
Kintsugi ( ?'golden joinery'), also known as kintsukuroi ( "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The method is similar to the maki-e technique.As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

What To Expect
Experience "Kintsugi" Easily in the Heart of Shibuya.
We provide old Japanese pottery that has been repaired by a professional kintsugi artist up to the final stage. You will experience the most splendid part of the lengthy repair process: finishing the cracks in the pottery with gold powder.
*What is Kintsugi?
→ Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese restoration technique from the 15th century, where broken or cracked ceramics are repaired using natural materials like lacquer, and then decorated beautifully by sprinkling gold or silver powder over the seams.
◎Choosing your pottery (about 10 minutes)

◎Water polishing of the undercoat (about 10 minutes)
Sand the surface of the black lacquer with waterproof paper to make it smooth.
↓
◎Making Bengara lacquer (about 10 minutes)
↓
◎Applying the lacquer (about 10 minutes)
↓
◎Finishing with gold powder (about 10 minutes)
Sprinkle gold powder over the Bengara lacquer to finish.

Place the pottery in the "Tsugutsugu Special Lacquer Drying Box" and take it home the same day. *For domestic and international shipping, please consult us. Shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.
