Overview
This is the area upstream of the Tama and Akigawa Rivers, where people have long come and gone from the city center (called "Edo") and its development was supported by charcoal burning as fuel and forestry as building material. It will change your image of "Tokyo" in a deeper and more three-dimensional way.
It will be an unforgettable day as a fun, tasty, refreshing, and fulfilling page of your trip.
For lunch, you'll dine at a popular local restaurant that's been renovated from an abandoned school. You can choose from several menu items, such as the grilled river fish set meal unique to this region.
This is a fantastic journey where you can experience Japan's mountain trails and the beauty of its four seasons, including cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in autumn. You'll be able to breathe in fresh air and enjoy the surroundings. Although it's quite a challenging trip, an electric bicycle will make it easier for you to navigate.

What To Expect
10:00 Meet at Tokyo URA-YAMA Base After preparing for departure, we will ride electric bicycles with a guide for the first half of the tour. We will stop at scenic bridges, old temples, Kuro-Chaya, Japanese gardens, and cafes with terraces overlooking the valley. 12:00-13:00 River Trekking Tour 13:00-14:00 Lunch at a restaurant renovated from an abandoned school 14:00-14:40 Cycling by electric bicycle (second half) 14:40-15:30 Cross a suspension bridge and visit a hot spring for a footbath and souvenir shopping 15:30-16:00 Take the bus back to Tokyo URA-YAMA Base 16:00 Shower available (if desired) 16:30 End of tour
