For Android devices(Samsung based instructions) - You can check by going to Settings->Connections->Mobile Networks->Network Operators->Turn off “Select Automatically”, wait for a bit.
If you see a list of multiple different available networks then your phone is unlocked, otherwise it's locked and incompatible.
