Keita Suma straddles the line between artisan and artist in his work with iron. His obsession with the material extends to his enthusiasm for sharing it with others: guests can look forward to friendly, personalized instruction during this intimate one-on-one workshop, as Suma teaches how to hammer iron into a stylish, durable frying pan. By the end, guests develop a newfound appreciation for iron as a material, and possibly even a newfound appreciation for what you can accomplish if you set your mind to it: the result of the workshop is not only a souvenir of a visit to an artisan’s studio, but the direct result of hard work and not giving up.

What To Expect
Make your frying pan, with guidance from the ironworking expert Keita Suma. The process is, remarkably, simply a matter of hammering iron into shape. By the end of the workshop, the guest is hopefully left with a frying pan roughly 17 cm in diameter — and certainly left with a firsthand understanding of how much hard work goes into making something like this. The main difference between taking home a lump of iron and taking home a frying pan is simply a matter of patience and persistence!
This one-on-one workshop is simple, yet wholly remarkable: Keita Suma guides a single guest through the process of hammering iron into a 17 cm frying pan. The entire process is done with close guidance and communication, as Suma helps the guests create an iron frying pan that fits the idea they had in mind. The process can be physically tiring, but your patience and perseverance will be rewarded!
