Overview
Kayaking is the best way to get to remote Fakistra beach & explore in detail its sea caves & the pristine coastline between Damouchari & Fakistra... interacting with wild Pelion coastal nature, without the noise of a motor boat.
The tour is family friendly, addressed to experience-seekers & nature lovers of any age who know how to swim. No previous experience is needed. Double & single kayaks are very stable & sea-worthy. Only basic fit condition is required, as it is the right distance that everyone can do. The idea is recreation. We go slowly stopping multiple times for swimming & relaxing. Scenery is so variable that doesn't let any participant (kids, teenagers or grown-ups) feel bored... dense with dramatic cliffs, secluded bays, caves, history & a beach with turquoise waters.
The trip is elaborated to offer a holistic memorable experience, more than kayaking. Guides are locals, raised in Pelion, very experienced, providing the right blend of adventure, safety & insider knowledge.
What's Included
- Guide is licensed or certified
- Dry bags, life vests, high quality paddles, left-hand paddles, special short paddles and life vests for kids, seats, tandem and single kayaks. All double kayaks take an extra child seat in the middle.
- Rescue boat always available
- We prepare on the spot a fresh Dakos (greek bruschetta) containing crispy bread, grated fresh tomato, feta cheese and some local herb. There is a vegan option if we know it in advance.

Meeting And Pickup
Meeting point
Leave the car on the main public parking place, located on the hill above Damouchari village, where asphalt road ends, with a characteristic olive tree in the middle. Then walk down the stone-built path opposite of the olive tree which takes you directly to our base.

This activity ends back at the meeting point.
What To Expect
Preparation takes about 45min. We take all equipment (life vests, dry bags, paddles) and we do a short briefing about the right paddling technique. Then we launch the kayaks. While inside the old port we tell you all the history of Damouchari, the old Venetian castle & the use of the harbor before tourism. We continue paddling along a spectacular, rocky, natural coastline, exploring all five bays between Damouchari & Fakistra. After half hour paddling (1 & half km) we stop at a hidden wild bay full of fresh water springs, that used to be an old partisans' refuge. We stop for about 30min, we swim & taste the fresh water. The second part of the tour is sea caves. About half hour after, we get to the large sea cave of Panagia Megalomata. The cave is impressive. Large entrance, stalactites, stalagmites, colorful rocks, tall & bright interior giving enough room for multiple kayaks. Inside this mystical atmosphere the guide is explaining you all the story of the "hidden school", located on the cliff above the cave. Then we land on Fakistra, a pristine beach only accessible on foot or by boat, where we spend 45min swimming & having picnic. We paddle for 45min back to Damouchari.
