I will explain the essence of my workshop. You can learn how to make wagashi (Japanese sweets) from dough at my private Japanese home. It might be a very rare activity for you to visit a Japanese private home.
There are different kinds of wagashi. "Nerikiri,” "Gyuhi," "Manju," an so on. You can learn Japanese sweets depending on the season. That means you can feel the beautiful Japanese season each time. Most of the wagashi are vegan & gluten-free. It is good for your health. Many visitors and my daily class students always have lots of fun making sweets, and they are always looking forward to eating the sweets.
You can enjoy double Japanese traditional culture (Wagashi and Matcha) at a private Japanese home.
I will introduce myself briefly. I'm Ikuyo, the host of this workshop. I have been learning Japanese tea ceremony for more than 40 years and teaching making Wagashi for 15 years.
I will pick you up by the red-color Toyota car at the front of Mizuho Bank, 1 min walk from the west exit of Azamino Station (Tokyo Denentoshi line & Yokohama Subway).
This activity ends back at the meeting point.
Let’s make Wagashi (Japanese sweets) together.
Wagashi means Japanese sweets, which is traditional Japanese sweets.
Making Wagashi is so fun! Looks cute!! Taste good!
For example, in case of Nerikiri (one of major Wagashi), we will make it from dough which contains white bean paste and Mochi. We will make specific shape of Narikiri which inside contains red bean paste or white bean paste. When I make the shape of Wagashi, I always follow the season. It is so fun to learn beautiful Japanese 4 seasons.
One guest makes 5 pieces of Wagashi then eat 1 piece together.
After making Wagashi, we will eat 1 piece of Wagashi together with Macha (green tea). I will make Matcha (green tea) for you.
You can take rest of 4 pieces of Wagashi back to home.
•You don’t need to bring anything special.
•It takes for 1 hour & half to make them, then eat 1 piece with Matcha together (total time, it takes about for 2 hours).
If you want to try mixing Matcha & being the guest of Japanese tea ceremony (looking procedure demonstration), I have 2 another classes. Please check them!
This is just FYI. It is good to visit Yokohama Ramen museum aroud Azamino. It is just 15 min from Azamino station.
