Palamidi Castle
Perched atop a 216-meter high hill east of the Acronauplia in Nafplio, Palamidi Fortress stands as a testament to Venetian ingenuity during their second occupation of the region from 1686 to 1715. Offering commanding views over the Argolic Gulf, the city of Náfplio, and the surrounding countryside, the fortress boasts a formidable presence. Accessible via a winding stairway comprising 913 steps from the town to the fortress, reaching the summit requires traversing over one thousand steps, although local lore in Nafplion insists there are precisely 999 steps to the castle's zenith.
