What To Expect

This evening trip takes you to the world of Aurora Borealis, more commonly know by the name Northern Lights. We will start our trip in Xwander Basecamp in Ivalo with gearing up with necessary winter clothing and headlamps, and then head towards the Aurora Camp. The camp is located in the vicinity of Lake Inari and even though only 15 minutes ride from Ivalo to the North is completely hidden of light pollution. On arrival to the camp you will get warm welcome drink and we’ll talk about Northern Lights science, mythology and how to read forecasts. We will then head to the lake ice and the forests for a stroll and talk more about the Northern Lights mythology and Arctic nature. When back on the camp it is time for Open Fire Cooking, while keeping our eyes on the sky between the dishes.

Day in the Tundra

Experience the magic of a day in Lapland's UKK National Park. This adventure combines a winter trek, tobogganing, and a smoke sauna, creating a perfect mix of exploration and relaxation in the Arctic. Start with a thrilling winter trek through the park's snowy tundra. Follow your expert guide on snowy trails, taking in the Arctic's untouched beauty. Enjoy panoramic views of snow-covered forests and mountains while basking in the peaceful atmosphere. Next, get ready for some fun on the toboggan slope. Glide down the hill on your toboggan, feeling the wind in your face and the thrill of the ride. The well-maintained slope ensures a smooth and enjoyable adventure. To end your day, treat yourself to a relaxing smoke sauna experience. Step into the warm smoke sauna, where crackling firewood and soothing scents create a calming atmosphere. Let the heat ease your tension, and afterward, cool off with an invigorating dip in an icy lake or river, continuing the tradition of ice swimming.

Day in Inari

Join us for a guided day in the beautiful village of Inari, which is the cultural heart of the indigenous people of Lapland, the Sámi people. We will visit the well-known, astonishing Sámi museum, “Siida”, where you’ll learn a lot about the interesting history and culture of the area, its indigenous people and the surrounding nature. After the museum, we will make a short hike to a “kota” (an open shelter with a fire place). Here, we’ll teach different ways to make a fire, prepare lunch on an open fire and enjoy a hot meal. Our guide also shares tips on how to survive during the coldest periods of the Arctic winter. When lunch is eaten, we’ll move to a near-by reindeer farm, where we learn about reindeer and reindeer herding. The life of reindeer and their herders is very interesting and driven by the rapidly changing seasons of the North. At the farm, we get to feed these magnificent animals, and of course take lots of pictures.
