Overview
The two waterfalls we visit are spectacular. The first, Hira Falls, is just a quarter mile (400 meter) hike from the car park. From there we hike to the even more dramatic Yobai Falls, feeling the splash of cool water. The round trip hike is only one mile (1.5 km) but the trail is rocky and steep, so a reasonable degree of fitness of required. From there we go to the shore of Lake Biwa where we ride kayaks, swim, or hang out on the beach. This tour is perfect for travelers who want to escape the crowds and heat of Kyoto and Osaka and enjoy nature.

Step outside the station (there's only one exit) and to the side. You'll be protected by a roof even if it's raining or intensely sunny. You'll be able to see the entire parking lot. I am a tall, thin American wearing glasses with a big smile. Finding each other will be very easy!

What To Expect
Lake Biwa
After a short drive of 5-10 minutes from Kita-Komatsu train station, we will start with a very short hike of .25 km (312 steps), up a steep, rocky path, to view the beautiful Hira Waterfall. From there we will hike .7 km (875 steps) to view the even more breathtaking Yobai Falls, enjoying the scenery and cool spray. We will then return to the parking lot. The round-trip hike is 1.4 km (1750 steps), much up a steep, rocky path. The hike is not wheelchair accessible. After a 10-15 minute drive we will arrive on the shore of Lake Biwa where we will access a kayak (choosing a one-person and/or two person kayak), paddle out on Lake Biwa, and enjoy views from the lake. The tour will end with a ride to either Hira or Shiga train stations (guests can choose which).

- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- While sections of the hike are steep and rocky, there are no dangerous cliffs, so this is suitable for children. Long pants and hiking boots are recommended.
