What To Expect
This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Akemi lives in a beautiful home near Chigasaki station (30-min drive from Hakone) and is excited to share Japanese homestyle cooking, the dishes she grew up eating with her family. During your 1-hour, hands-on cooking class, Akemi will teach you to make 2-3 regional Japanese dishes. You might learn to make osuimono (clear soup), shiogama-yaki (meat or fish cooked in a salt crust) and seasonal vegetables. Your food will be served in traditional Japanese ceramics and will have three distinct flavors - sour, sweet and salty. By the end of the experience you will have gleaned a lot of interesting culinary knowledge, from why the Japanese have different flavor profiles in their cuisine to insightful cultural trivia regarding the ingredients and the food you helped prepare.
