This full day excursion to Pico takes about 8-9 hours, during which you will see most of the highlights of the neighboring Pico island. The tour is perfect for those visitors of Faial who only spend a couple of days in the Triangle but want to visit Pico without too much stress.
The Pico, a first impression tour is an all inclusive trip from your accommodation in Faial, including the ferry transfers, to the main landmarks of Pico. Depending on the ferry schedules you will leave from Faial at around 9 a.m. and return in the late afternoon at around 7 p.m. At lunch time we will have a rich picnic in one of the recreational parks of Pico.
Meeting point is in front of the Casa da Baia tourist information building.

Pick up and drop off at a place of your choice in Faial. Exact time of pick up depends on ferry schedule.
The tour starts at your accommodation from where you will go to the ferry terminal of Horta for the passage to Pico. On Pico there are drives of 15 to 30 minutes in-between the attractions. At the end of the tour you will take again the ferry back to Horta and will be dropped off at your accommodation.

The vineyards of Criação Velha around Madalena are home to volcanic wines which have seen a resurrection over the last decade. The vineyards have been classified in 2004 as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the wine is grown directly in the volcanic rocks in small plots which are protected from the wind by little rock walls.

The small Porto do Calhau is one of the many small ports around the island. It offers a nice view over to Faial and on windy days the waves are crushing spectacularly on the volcanic rocks.

The lighthouse Farol de São Mateus offers a spectacular view of the south coast of Pico. If you are lucky, you might even spot a whale or dolphins.

Lajes do Pico used to be the center of the whaling activity on the south coast, today it is one of the major points for starting a whale watching tour. The small town invites for a stroll.

The Lagoa do Capitão is one of many small lakes from where you can admire the majesty of Pico mountain. The lakes are home to a rich birdlife, surrounded by green pastures.

The small forest park in Prainha is a perfect place to stop for a picnic with a view on neighbouring São Jorge Island. For kids there is even a small playground.

São Roque do Pico on the north coast is the second whaling station on Pico. The slopes around São Roque have a completely different character, with all the cows you feel like being in the Alps.

Cais do Mourato on the north coast of Pico is marked by the Adegas, small rock houses, of the winemakers of Pico. There are several natural swimming pools in-between the lava rocks.
