Tsurugi Town, located in the middle reaches of the Yoshino River, a major river in Shikoku, flourished through the distribution of leaf tobacco and lumber, and is a historic town with ornate two-tiered udatsu, a firewall for merchant houses and a symbol of wealth. The main street, Gion Street, runs parallel to the Sadamitsu River, the clearest river in Japan, and is lined with old-fashioned stores still in operation. The alleyways that intersect with the street are called "shoji," and are places of daily life that can be visited only by bicycle.

What To Expect
Tsurugi-cho
This is a place where you can experience the culture of the Yoshino River basin, including Japan's clearest stream, the Sadamitsu River, and the townscape of Sadamitsu two-story udatsu where you can feel the lifestyle of the people.

After passing through the town, ride along the road along the Sadamitsu River to the Minase Submerged Bridge, a hidden spot used only by locals. There, you can experience the reason why the Sadamitsu River is called "clear stream," and spend some time relaxing while tasting the Japanese sweets purchased in the townscape. The village of Minase, where you will stop on your way home, retains a strong agricultural culture of a sloping village.
