Baliati Zamindari, Manikgong

Baliati Palace

Journey: Pick from Hotel & start towords the Palace. 2 hours to reach. Attraction: Gobinda Ram Shaha was the settler of the zamindari at Baliati. He was a salt merchant. He inherited the business from his parent, then he extended that business further and established the zamindari. There are seven palaces. The palace area occupies around 5.88 acres (23,800 m2) of land, enclosed within a moat and a perimeter wall. There are about 200 rooms inside the premises. At the back of the Palace is a pond At the end of the 18th century, Zamindar Harendra Kumar Roy Chowdhury officially sold some parts of the Zamindari of Narayanganj to Sreemoti Alladi BiBi who was the owner of Talluk and her husband Zamindar Rahim Bakhsh Haji. The palaces have been administered by the Bangladesh archeological department since 1987. And it is said that after separation in 1947, all the ancestors left for India. Mohera Jomidar Bari

Travel: Around 1 hours tavel time to reach here. The zamindar house was established in Mirzapur, Tangail, in 1890 by Kali Charan Saha. Kali Charan Saha and Anand Saha, two brothers came to Mohera village from Calcutta. Besides their land lordship, they have conducted trading related to Jute and Salt. They were the owner of huge land properties from different parts of Bangladesh. During country division and war, most of them moved into India. Only very few are living at Tangail. Since they were rich, people say they have built those buildings before establishing their Zamindari. During the Bangladesh Liberation war, the Pakistan Army attacked the Mohera zamindar's house and killed five villagers, including the wife of the zamindar house (1971). Later the zamindar family left the country by boat on the river Lohajang. It was here that the Mukti Bahini camp was set up.

Jamuna Multi-Purpose Bridge

The bridge also known as the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge is a bridge opened in Bangladesh in June 1998. It connects Bhuapur on the Jamuna River's east bank to Sirajganj on its west bank. It was the 11th longest bridge in the world when constructed in 1998 and at present is the 6th longest bridge in South Asia. The Jamuna River, which it spans, is one of the three major rivers of Bangladesh, and is fifth largest in the world in discharge volume.

Mahasthangarh

Attraction: Mahasthan means a place that has excellent sanctity and garh means fort. Mahasthan was first mentioned in a Sanskrit text of the 13th century entitled Vallalcharita. It is also mentioned in an anonymous text Karatoya mahatmya, circumstantially placed in 12th–13th century. The same text also mentions two more names to mean the same place – Pundrakshetra, land of the Pundras, and Pundranagara, city of the Pundras. In 1685, an administrative decree mentioned the place as Mastangarh, a mixture of Sanskrit and Persian meaning fortified place of an auspicious personage. Subsequent discoveries have confirmed that the earlier name was Pundranagara or Paundravardhanapura, and that the present name of Mahasthangarh. Francis Buchanan Hamilton was the first to locate and visit Mahasthangarh in 1808, C.J.O'Donnell, E.V.Westmacott, and Beveridge followed. Alexander was the first to identify the place. Ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur

We will reach here by 1.30 hours by our private vehicle. The first builder of the monastery was Dharmapala Vikramshila (770-810AD), the king of Varendri-Magadha, as inscribed on a clay seal discovered in the monastery compound. The plan of the monastery can be described as a large square quadrangle measuring approximately 920 feet, with the main entrance, an elaborate structure, on the northern side. The outer walls of the monastery are formed by rows of cells that face inwards toward the main shrine in the centre of the courtyard. In the last building phases of the Monastery these cells, which formed the outer wall, totalled 177. The main central shrine has a cruciform ground plan and a terraced superstructure that rises in three terraces above ground level to a height of about 70 feet. History: Construction on the mosque began in 1558 and ended in 1559, according to an inscription on the exterior of the mosque.During this period, Bangladesh had a string of Afghani rulers. The Kusumba mosque was built under one of the last Suri rulers, named Ghiyasuddin Bahadur Shah. The actual construction of the mosque was overseen by a high-ranking official named Sulaiman. Although the mosque was built under the Suri rule, the architectural pattern was not influenced by earlier Suri architecture of North India.Instead, the mosque was built in the style of other Bangladeshi mosques The Kusumba Mosque went on to serve as inspiration for other mosques in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Rajbari

We will than visit Puthia Rajbari on the way back to Dhaka. History: Initially, Puthia was a village of Laskarpur Pargana, named after Laskar Khan Nilamber, the brother of the first zamindar of Puthia, who was the first to receive the title of Raja from the Mughal emperor Jahangir. A partition of the estate took place in 1744 and the zamindari was divided among 4 co shares among whom the panch ani (five annas) and char ani (four annas) co-shares become famous in conducting jamindary. After visit we will start to end our destination Dhaka and hopefully by afternoon we will drop you to your hotel.
