Start with a visit to Oudhna, a well-preserved ancient Roman town where you can explore an archaeological site and absorb the organization and scale of the town in its heyday. Next, travel to Zaghouan, a town renowned for its Andalusian heritage. Visit the Water Temple, which marks the source of the ancient aqueduct supplying Carthage. This semi-circular basin, under the protection of Neptune, served as a public fountain in Antiquity. You will then visit Thuburbo Majus, an ancient Roman city renowned for its archaeological importance. Explore the well-preserved ruins, including the Capitol, forum and various temples. Admire the intricate mosaics and sculptures that demonstrate the blend of Roman and Berber architectural styles.
Oudhna is located in the heart of a fertile plain in a gently rolling region. Uthina (its ancient name) had a gigantic capitol raised above two floors of vaulted rooms still visible. It was among the largest temples in Roman Africa. Its vast, well-preserved amphitheater is partly dug into a hill. It could accommodate 16,000 spectators.
