Created by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón, the staircase is made up of 215 steps covered with more than 2,000 colorful tiles, from more than 60 countries around the world. Opened in 1984 and designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, the Sambadrome was specially designed to host samba school parades during Carnival, the largest and most famous carnival celebration in the world.
