A bit of a different city tour: hike through Sarajevo's history and get to know the Jerusalem of Europe from above: The route leads through old Ottoman neighbourhoods, so-called mahalas, past Austrian villas, synagogues, villages and illegal settlements to the city's most beautiful vantage points.
09:30 AM
Our hike ends at the excellent Bosnian restaurant Bašča kod Ene. Here you can enjoy an excellent Bosnian lunch with your guide (optional) and, if you wish, walk back to the starting point of the hike afterwards.
You will meet your guide at the cathedral in the centre of Sarajevo. There you will learn the first exciting facts about this city - the "Jerusalem of the Balkans". After all, you are in the centre of the Austro-Hungarian part of the city. But this picture will soon change when you set off for the mahalas. These old Ottoman neighbourhoods - the smallest possible administrative unit at the time - still characterise the cityscape of Sarajevo today and have exciting stories to tell!

On the way up, it becomes more rural, with people planting their herbs and vegetables in their own vegetable gardens in illegal settlements. You will also get to know this part of the city before taking a breather at a marvellous viewpoint where you can learn about the siege of the 20th century.
