We will start our journey at Waterlooplein Market, a meeting point for the dutch resistance during the first years of german occupation. Through the old Jodenbuurt Jewish Quarter, where many Jews resided from the late 16th century until the deportations during World War II.

At the corner where the river Amstel meets Zwanenburgwal stands the Jewish resistance monument. It was created by Belgian sculptor Josef Glatt and placed there in 1988. On the side, the text of the prophet Jeremiah laments in Dutch and Hebrew: 'Were my eyes fountains of tears then would I weep day and night for the fallen fighters of my beloved people.'
