Overview
Sheep and Spirits will take you off the beaten track. Tourists often head to Banff and Canmore to explore the mountains. Not only is the Sheep River Valley close to Calgary, other users are few and far between. This is a landscape of dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and charismatic herds of Bighorn Sheep. There is a good chance that you will encounter at least one Bighorn Sheep on your day out.
By hiking with us, you will come away with a stronger connection to the local landscape. Your guide, Leith Monaghan, is an ACMG certified Hiking Guide and professional interpreter. She can plan a custom adventure with interpretive information based on local topics specific to you. For this shorter day trip option there are three trails to choose from that can suit various fitness levels. This choice is yours!

Meeting point
Hikers will meet their Path Less Taken Guide, Leith Monaghan, at the Sheep River Library Parking Lot. The itinerary and hiking route will be reviewed and waivers signed. The group will then drive 20-30 minutes west to the trailhead of choice.
End Point

What To Expect
Sheep & Spirits is the perfect pairing for a fantastic day out in the foothills of Southern Alberta. Enjoy a hike in the Sheep River Valley: a landscape of dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and charismatic herds of Bighorn Sheep. On this professionally guided outdoor experience, you will explore and engage with stories from the local landscape. The best part of hiking however is enjoying a hard earned cold beverage. Travel to the nearby town of Diamond Valley to refresh and relax like a local by enjoying the spirits and food of the Eau Claire Distillery. Hikers will get a "local" discount of 15% off food, drinks and merchandise. Seating around the patio campfire can be reserved for your group to enjoy your beverages. A great way to end a fantastic day in the foothills!
