A one of a kind scenic drive will bring you to the center of the White Mountains National Recreation Area. The Table Top Mountain Trail is a wonderful and easy day tour for all age groups. The hike is spectacular and offers beautiful views of Nome Creek valley and Beaver Creek valley.
The summit offers a vista of the White Mountains spanning as far as Mount Prindle which is a granitic mountain in the Yukon-Tanana Upland. On clear days you may even see parts of the gorgeous Alaska Range.
The trail is a moderate climb to the top with chances of seeing wildlife such as hawk owls, moose, and bears just to name a few (please note – no guarantee).
In 2004, 6.6 million acres burned in the state of Alaska. It is to date the largest fire recorded. The trail winds through and along burned spruce trees which are still towering high over the valley. This experience will give you an idea of the fire’s magnitude and the many years it has taken for the ecosystem to recover.
Once we reach the top of Table Top Mountain you will be treated to a magnificent and breathtaking panorama. It’s the perfect place to rest and take pictures and do some exploring.
This is not a physically demanding or strenuous hike.
Please note that the pure hiking time is around 3 hours and the travel time is approximately 5 hours.
