What To Expect
In 1859, gold was discovered in Clear Creek, which runs through Golden and into the mountains. Miners and prospectors flooded the region, following the creek up into the Rockies in search of larger gold deposits.
Golden quickly became a commercial and agricultural center, supplying those heading out into the mountains. Before Colorado was a state, Golden was even the capital of the Colorado Territory.
Today, Golden is home to the world-famous Coors Brewing Company, the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It has become a hub for green industries and preserved its small-town feel even as it is now part of the expanding Denver suburbs. Golden's rich history, green future, and status as one of Colorado's most historic towns make it a fascinating place to explore.
Some of the top attractions in Golden include the Colorado School of Mines, the Foothills Art Center, and the historic U.S. Post Office building.
