Before you depart on that long-awaited vacation, there are a few things you need to remember to do to make your trip more comfortable. These may range from the extremely obvious to the seemingly unnecessary, but all of them will ensure a smoother transition both while you travel, and after you return.
So, here are 6 things to cross off your list before you head out the door.
1. Confirm your reservations
Double-check all the dates and times on the reservations you’ve made, from your flight, your hotel, to any other tickets you may have. If you can, print out a copy of these confirmations, just in case your phone/laptop isn’t working later.
2. Check the weather at your destination
Even if you’ve already packed and you know the general forecast at your destination, check to see if there is going to be unexpected rain or snow so that you can quickly add the appropriate clothes to your bag.
3. Pay any bills that are due during your trip
While you’re enjoying yourself on vacation, you don’t need to be reminded to pay your bills. You also don’t want to pay any late fees if you forget to do so.
4. Eat or throw out all your perishable foods
This may seem obvious, but remember to clean out your fridge and pantry before you go. You don’t want to return to a smelly kitchen. Also, remember to take out the trash and do your dishes to prevent attracting bugs or rats while you’re away
5. Give a copy of your itinerary to a friend or family member
Leave a copy of your travel plans with somebody at home, even if you’re traveling with others, just so that they know where you are. It also means that someone can contact you in case of an emergency.
6. Get international plans on your phone and credit card
Even if you don’t plan to use your card or your phone while you’re away, contact your service provider and your card company to make sure that you can use them if you really need to.
