Millennials Move On Montréal

Berlin-based house-hunting website Nestpick has ranked Montréal the No. 2 city in the world for millennials in its 2018 Millennial City Ranking. Moving up from the No. 7 spot in 2017, the city’s lively neighborhoods, affordable housing, and great universities make it an excellent choice for young people, along with places like Amsterdam and London.

Millennials are a somewhat misunderstood generation. Facing a reality of adulthood that is quite different from what they heard their parents talk about as children, it is not surprising that their worldviews also differ greatly from older generations.

Highly educated, career-driven, and becoming increasingly politically involved, people in their 20s and 30s are looking for places that are both professional and know how to have a good time, and Montréal blends both of these seamlessly.

With a melting pot of people and cultures, and the city celebrates multiplicity and diversity. It is also known for its openness and tolerance to immigrants and the LGBT community. Toronto and Vancouver, ranked fifth and sixth by Nestpick, also have a similar vibe, but Montréal’s excellent local startup scene, which is one of the best in North America, make it a millennial magnet.

Montréal boasts some of Canada’s finest universities that attract students from around the globe and incredibly affordable rental rates. Its serene natural walk and parks also stand out as perfect places to relax in the city.

The city is also full of clubs, and residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to coffee shops and eateries. It is also home to many vibrant festivals and outstanding music. While many Canadian cities almost hibernate during the cold winter months, in Montréal, there is something happening all throughout the year.
