Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras is a mix of colonial historical heritage and modernism of a contemporary metropolitan city. Despite its Spanish origins, it does not have the traditional square design of the streets surrounding the central square.
Officially founded on September 29, 1578 under the name of Real de Minas de San Miguel de Tegucigalpa, it was not until 3 centuries later, on October 30, 1880, that it became the capital of the country.

Catedral de San Miguel

The cathedral of San Miguel de Tegucigalpa is one of the oldest and most important buildings in the city that is preserved until today in good general condition. The building has a place in Honduran history that is not limited to the sphere of influence of the city of Tegucigalpa but to the entire country, being the church with the greatest popularity and tradition since the early twentieth century. Being an old building, a proposal was made to restore the interior, the atrium, the side patios and the facade: the project has been carried out by the Department of Anthropological Research through the Archeology Section of the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History .

Plaza Los Dolores

A square that contains enormous features of the history of Tegucigalpa, a walk in time at each cardinal point, that is the Plaza Los Dolores which is located in one of the first neighborhoods of the city. In colonial times, the parishes of Tegucigalpa were reserved for Spaniards and Creoles, so the "lower" classes had to build their own church, with their money and effort. This is how the Dolores de Tegucigalpa Church was built. The work that corresponds to the provincial baroque style is listed as one of the most beautiful in America and in every detail of its facade reflects the commercial activity that existed at that time in addition to symbolisms related to Christianity. The interior is a masterpiece where the altarpieces that were prepared by the assembler and painter Blas de Mesa, stand out above those existing in other churches, a work of detail that satisfies the most demanding connoisseur of colonial art.

Honduran cultural center, also known as “The House of Culture”, is a century-old Renaissance building. The Manuel Bonilla Theater is an architectural jewel, built during the government of President Juan Manuel Bonilla, by agreement of April 4, 1905, with the first stone being placed on May 5 of the same year in the sector of the island, later moving it to the place where it is today. It was originally called the Cervantes Theater, later the House of Culture and currently the Manuel Bonilla National Theater. It was inaugurated on September 15, 1915, celebrating another anniversary of our national independence.

Palacio Legislativo

Panoramic view of the Legislative Palace. The order for the construction of the Legislative Palace was carried out by DECREE No. 47 of January 30, 1951, on the land occupied by the old building of the Superior Court of Accounts, National Museum, General Directorate of Statistics, General Prosecutor's Office of Finance and Registry of the Property and that limits: to the North; with Avenida Colón; to the South through Paz Barahona Avenue, Morazán Park; to the East the Alley of the Cathedral, and to the West with Calle San Martín. In 1953, the construction of the headquarters of the National Congress began, the work was in charge of the national architect Mario Valenzuela, also the following year (1954), once the building was completed, the premises of the current headquarters of the national congress were founded, which It comprises a seven-story building, at a cost of one million four hundred thousand Lempiras (Lps. 1,400,000.00) around $56,452 at this time.

Naciones Unidas El Picacho Park

The Cristo del Picacho is a majestic monument that reminds us of the image of the Risen Christ ascending to heaven. The Cristo del Picacho Monument was created by the Honduran sculptor Mario Zamora Alcántara and is located in the highest part of the United Nations National Park, better known as El Picacho, about 1,327 meters above sea level. Its construction began in 1997 and was inaugurated on January 16, 1998, which means that the monument that is an icon of the Capitalists and a pride of Hondurans in general with more than 20 years old. That is why the Cristo del Picacho Monument is one of the 30 Wonders of Honduras, occupying the 27th position on the list.

Basilica de Suyapa

The Basilica of Suyapa is the largest Catholic temple in the Republic of Honduras, named after the Virgin of Suyapa. The basilica has several windows that represent different passages from the Bible. In the 18th century, the image of the Virgin of Suyapa was found by Alejandro Colindres. And she was venerated for the first time in a hermitage built in the town of Suyapa in 1780, not far from San Miguel de Tegucigalpa. Years later, once the first stage was completed, the image was moved to the new prayer temple, which was elevated to the rank of basilica.
