Vietnam's former capital, Hue, is a historical, cultural, and architecturally stunning city. Hue, which is located in central Vietnam along the banks of the Perfume River, was the political, cultural, and religious hub of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 until 1945. The well-preserved imperial castle, royal tombs, pagodas, and historic sites all attest to the city's rich legacy. The UNESCO-listed Imperial City, a vast complex surrounded by defensive walls with palaces, temples, pavilions, and elaborate gateways that reflect the pinnacle of Vietnamese feudal architecture, is the focal point of Hue. Another highlight are the several royal tombs that can be found across Hue's outskirts. They are stunning examples of craftsmanship and design, and each one captures the essence of the emperor's character and reign. Hue's ancient capital offers a captivating journey through Vietnam's imperial past, where centuries of history come alive amidst its timeless landmarks and cultural treasures.
