If you were under the impression that Bangalore is just the Pub capital and there is nothing else to do here or eat here, keep reading! You are about to get enlightened and mouth-watered! My friend, Malavika and I went for a food hunt and explore places to eat in Bangalore. We started with M.G Road and headed to Lal Bagh and Gandhi Bazaar.

Here are some of the eating joints in Bangalore that we tried

Koshy’s

Opened in 1952, Koshy’s today has made it up to the top ten food joints in Bangalore. Let me tell you, the food here in Koshy’s is to die for. Koshy’s started off as a Bakery in 1940 and later became a restaurant in 1952. And Oh My God, The Food! The food here is amazing. We ordered a mushroom omelette, bacon omelette and plain omelette with bread and fries.

The bread in Koshy’s is so soft and sweet. Honestly, I could have gulped the bread as it is. Extremely soft! What I liked about their presentation of the bread was that the butter on it was evenly spread. The bacon and mushroom omelette was amazing and the mushroom omelette had too many mushrooms. Both these were super filling and worth every penny. Please do not miss this eating joint in Bangalore. The beverages they offer are again perfect!

The Only Place

Started in the ’60s, the Only Place is a winner. This place has literally everything for every kind of foodie. Starting from salads to burgers, every bite will either make you cry or make your soul dance on the table. We ordered a Beef burger and All American Chicken Burger. My mouth just got filled with saliva while writing this. The burgers are so filling and they serve french fries with every burger they serve. Isn’t it great?

This chain was started by the coffee cess committee in 1936. The first outlet opened in Bombay and the first outlet in Bangalore and Delhi opened in 1957. It nearly has its presence of 400 coffee houses across India till date. I would not say that the coffee was best; honestly, I have tasted better. But if you are in Bangalore and you have never been to The Indian coffee house, do stop by for tasting some snacks like Dosa, cutlet, Vada, Idly etc.

MTR

Mavalli Tiffin House originated in Bangalore in the year 1924. In the 1970s when India was under emergency, a food control act got introduced that made it mandatory to sell food at very low prices. That made it difficult for MTR to maintain their restaurant business, so they started diversifying to an instant food business selling packed food like chutneys and Rasams. So we went to this iconic restaurant and ordered what might sound very normal but is very rich. We ordered Dosa, idly, Gulab Jamun and coffee to go with it.

Timing:

It is always recommended to reach around 6:30 because after 7:30 you will not find a way to step into the restaurant as It gets super crowded and you have to wait for your turn to sit. It closes at 11:00 am.

Brick Oven

Brick Oven was founded in 1956 and since then the restaurant has kept growing. The Best part about this amazing restaurant is that the pizza is made from scratch in front of you. From the base of the pizza to the baking of the pizza is done from scratch every day. We ordered their new pizza that is called “Winter Has Come”. The pizza was breath-taking; it was topped with Buffalo mozzarella, basil, prosciutto, aged goats cheese, arugula & truffle oil. Do not miss it when you are there. It is sufficient for two people and is worth 800/-. We also ordered lemonade and ice tea which were both refreshing and soothing.

Vidyarthi Bhavan

This heritage South Indian vegetarian restaurant started in 1943 as a small eatery but today it has become one big restaurant that no one in Bangalore should miss. They have a unique way of bringing dosas to the tables. The waiter brings almost 10-12 plates of dosas on one hand and the pile of dosas in his hand looks like a snake from far. Talking about the food, the masala dosa contains one big scoop of butter which can make you full at once. The food is so rich! They serve Vada with chutney that’s not spicy and yet tastes wonderful. Also, try their Khara bath. The food here is to die for.
