Shopping, Nightlife, Food. These are the things that Bangkok, the vibrant city in Thailand is most famous for and for a good reason! Let me elaborate on things to do in Bangkok on a budget.
Shopping
It’s easy to go crazy shopping in Bangkok, everything is so cheap!! Not only can you buy bags of clothes for just a couple of thousand rupees, there are stores that will ship your shopping to your home address! Win-win right?? Having extra baggage to carry would be the ONLY thing that could stop me from shopping but in Bangkok, you can go crazy and your arms won’t have to suffer for it. Not only that, when it comes to shopping you can choose between the floating markets, the night markets, the shopping malls and the countless number of shopping streets- yup that’s right, shopper’s paradise is not an exaggeration here.
Nightlife
Once you’re done with your shopping, you can treat yourself to some delicious drinks at one of the many cocktail bars and follow it up with a crazy night of dancing (and hopefully no one remembers your horrendous dance moves because of all those delicious drinks!). The streets are teeming with life right through the day and the bright neon signs will take some getting used to but are the crux of the city’s nightlife.
Food
By the end of the day, not only have you spent the whole day shopping (phew) but you also spent the whole night trying to avoid the countless scantily-clad ladies[?](You can’t be too sure) trying to lure you into the newest go-go bar (double phew). Not to worry, you will never run short of places to refuel and this time I’m talking about the solid kind- food! Thai food is a delight for the senses: the aromas are mouth-watering, the flavours are mind blowing and the textures are incredible. The choice of street food is never ending and most street vendors are open round the clock so not only will you be able to satisfy your hunger throughout the day, you can do so while barely putting a dent in your budget.
Bangkok will not disappoint you even if you are a culture buff
While Bangkok might seem like the perfect party destination, if you’re more of a culture driven traveller, Bangkok will not disappoint. The city is overflowing with history and culture that you can immerse yourself in for days on end. A few of the popular temples you can add to your list are Wat Phra Kaew which is considered one of the most sacred Buddhist temples- home to The Emerald Buddha, Wat Arun which is a stunning Buddhist temple situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and Wat Saket which, due to its location, gives you a unadulterated view of the city. As if this is not enough, a quick internet search will help you narrow down your choices of palaces, museums, zoos and parks to visit.
A host of different tours are available that are tailored to suit your interests be it history, wildlife, culture, art, or the other ‘wild’life but be sure to plan your trip well or you might not be able to take in all that Bangkok has to offer but then again, what better excuse for a second visit??
