Are you one of those people think UV protection sunglasses and Polarised Sunglasses are the same? No, they are not. There is a huge difference between the two. And here I am to help you again by telling you what is good and what is not.

First thing first…

What effect do UV rays have on our eyes?

There are two types of UV rays that can damage your eyes by the course of time.

UV-A

UV-A rays can damage the macula which is a part of the retina. This can hurt your central vision.

UV-B
The cornea and the lens absorb most of the UV-B rays. These rays can cause more damage to the eyes than UV-A rays.

Polarised sunglasses
UV rays harm eyes

What damage can your eyes get from UV rays?

Cataract

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens. This is the part of the eye that focuses the light we see.

Pterygium

Pterygium is a growth that starts on the clear tissue of the eye that can spread to the cornea that can lead to unclear vision and eventually vision loss.

Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss which is caused by the deterioration of the central portion of the retina.

Corneal Sunburn

The cornea can be damaged very easily by exposure to UV rays from the sun. The cornea takes the brunt of the damage if there is no eye protection covering the eyes.

Don’t be scared, with just knowing what is nice for you, your eyes can be saved.

Difference between Polarised Sunglasses and UV Protection Sunglasses

Polarised Sunglasses

Polarised sunglasses definitely gives better quality but does not provide UV protection. They come in a unique film coating that helps in reducing the glare or at least reduce them. Polarised lenses allow you to view the objects clearly by filtering the light that reaches your eyes. These sunglasses are best when it comes to outdoor activities in extreme snow or water sports and fishing. You don’t have to worry if you need a corrective glass, with polarised sunglasses that also is an option.

UV Protection Sunglasses

Extreme sunlight exposure needs an equal amount of protection. And normal sunglasses do not have the capability to do that. They surely do restrict a certain amount of sunlight but does it restrict UV-A and UV-B rays? Your eyes need 100% UV protection that can be provided by a good sunglass. Your eyes are precious, they can not be compromised.

Did you know??

When you are in snow, you are more prone to encounter Uv radiations as 80% of uv rays are reflected by the snow.

UV protection in sunglasses does not mean the darker the lens the higher the protection. It means that the coating that blocks the ultraviolet rays are clear. Yet the tint of the glass plays a significant role.

Technically both the sunglasses play an important role in protecting your eyes. It is completely your decision to see how to protect your eyes. When you are travelling you are exposed to a lot of sunlight and harmful UV radiations so a pair of good sunglasses is a must-have accessory for your travels. Here are some helpful suggestions.
